Crochet is the art of a using yarn to make a patterned fabric by looping yarn through a hooked needle.

 Why the definition? Because the craft of crochet is returning and it is a very inexpensive craft that anyone can take up and learn and make beautiful garments.

 I have been thinking a lot about this craft mainly because I have been doing more of it and mainly because it requires a lot of time and use of your hands.  To crochet and make lovely garments for others can be very time consuming....not that time consuming is a problem, but it means that you can only reasonably do so much if you want to make a business of selling this craft.  I have decided that I would prefer to design and create one of a kind of objects that I sell infrequently.

 So this means I will have to learn a lot of techniques that can create beautiful one of a kind garments.  I'm up for this.....my design skills and creativity is ready to let loose.

 I've also been designing fabric lately.  I've created some batiks and some online designs from www.spoonflower.com . Check them out and give me your honest opinion.  I could use it. And check out my video below of my emerging work.  I'm lovin textiles and paper.  I won't bore you with all my loves again.

Boredom is Just An Excuse for Not Living!

It is difficult to find activities for kids when money is low and you have more than one child.  But thank God Chicago has a myriad of opportunities for kid-friendly fun and learning.  All one has to do is do a little research and you can find tons of free or inexpensive things to do. Today I am posting links of websites to look up and places to go that will help any parent find something for their children to do. Chicagoparent.com Magazine online is a great beginning.  I used it a lot when my children were smaller and for my students when I had to take them on 2 field trips a month. You can also pick up the actual magazine through any library in the city.  Chicago Children's Museum has an exhibit called Danger 101.  Kids get to unleash their Daredevil and to be adventurous.  Most of the museums cost money to attend but they also have free days.  Here's a list.
